And you raise a valid point about the unusual fact that lead character, prosecutor Rachel Knight, is so involved in the guidance of the investigation. So I wanted to let you know that this is based on reality.

Rachel is a prosecutor in the Special Trials Unit in the Los Angeles D.A.'s office. When I was a prosecutor, I spent ten years in that unit (which is much bigger and is now called Major Crimes). The Special Trials Unit was a small cadre of prosecutors who handled all of the most high profile, complex cases. The prosecutors in that unit usually get the cases very early on, frequently the day the body is found, and they do participate closely in the investigation with the detectives.

It was very common for prosecutors in the Special Trials Unit to form close friendships with detectives - especially the detectives in the Robbery Homicide Division of LAPD, because that division handles all the high profile cases on the police end of things.

Bailey is a detective in the Robbery Homicide Division, and she and Rachel are not just close friends, they handle most of their cases together. So by the time we meet them in Guilt by Association, they really are a team and work all aspects of the case together.

You'll see this in the next book, Guilt by Degrees (which just came out in May) and in the third book, Guilt by Ambition, which will be out next year.

Again, J-9, I'm so glad you liked Guilt by Association and I hope you'll give Guilt by Degrees a try!

All best
marcia clark (FB and Twitter: thatmarciaclark)marcia clarknoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2610872666699266078.post-46219257267315308972012-05-30T15:25:33.702-07:002012-05-30T15:25:33.702-07:00Hi Kimba,
