novel, Hannah Kaner has four individuals forced together on a quest to find
answers from the Fallen Gods:<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: georgia;">Kissen is a
Godkiller. She makes her way in the world by killing the Gods who are still
around and determine to make plight against Humans. Kissen has every reason to
hate Gods, as she was once destined to be a sacrifice for one. Kissen enjoys
what she does and there has never been a God that she has refused to kill,
until she meets a young girl name Inara, who somehow has a God bound to her. If
Kissen were to kill the God it may kill her as well. This is why they are on a journey
together, to try and find an Old Gol who can tell them how to break the bond.
Along the way the meet a mysterious man Elos the baker, who is more than he
seems, but with the darkness and treachery on the trail another set of eyes is
reluctantly welcome. Especially when the world is in a time of upheaval, demons
stalk the night and a civil war is brewing and all must face their reckoning.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: georgia;">This Kaner's
debut novel and what a novel to debut with. I will say that this book does not
read like a debut with the writing, plot and characters so well developed. The
book reads like it was written by a seasoned writer, so I was really shocked to
discover this was her debut. This book really hooked me in the first chapter,
but I will admit that the next 50ish pages are a bit slow as we meet the
characters of the book but after that it is really interesting when the quest
really starts.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">This book has a simple world so
not much world building is required, as it had a very medieval feel to it and
that Gods were once prevalent throughout the land are no more or not as strong
as they once were. Gods feed on prayers and offering and as they have dried up
so have the Gods and their powers. I would also classify it as Fantasy Light
due to this fact, as the world is not that complex as High fantasy novel. I'm personally
okay with the world building taking a side to the quests that our characters
are on, as this is not a very long book I feel like excessive world building
would have gotten in the wat of the plot.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">I loved that there were Gods
for everything really, anything that people have ever prayed to. There were the
more known Gods like God of War and God of fertility and such but there was
also God of Little White Lies (Skedi), God of different rivers and water and
even buttons. I liked the creativity that Kaner had on this aspect.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">I really enjoyed that we get
the view of a fledgling God, Skedi as he tries to make sense of his purpose in
life and the things that he desires among everything else, for offerings and
prayers. Each POV is unique in this book, there is really no repetitiveness
between the characters. I can’t help but like all the characters in their own
way. Kissen’s with her path of vengeance against all Gods for what was done to
her. Elo’s never wavering loyalty and love for his King, Inara a girl who has
lost everything but the God who is bound to her and Skediceth (Skedi) a God of
white lies who yearns to be free and wants to be a true God.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">This was a great debut novel
and I really enjoyed this book. I felt like I was invested in all four
characters, which I don't think has happened before in a book for me. I can't
wait to read the next book in this series to see where Kaner takes this story
especially with that ending and what comes to light in this book.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

shows that the most complicated relationship you have is one with your Family:<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: georgia;">The McTavish
family name has always had money and power in the small town in North Carolina,
and when the heiress Ruby dies and leaves the fortune and Ashby House to her adopted
son Camden, everyone is shocked that he wants nothing to do with it. Camden
flees and becomes a teacher and wants to forget everything that is associated
to the McTavish Name and Ashby House. But as much as Camden wants to forget his
relatives and house keep calling, and he wife Jules finally convinces him that
it is finally time to go home and confront everything. Everyone has their
secrets and all of them seem to buried in Ashby house, it's whether they are buried
deep enough to keep them safe that matters.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: georgia;">This is a good
domestic suspense book as it is all about family and all the complications that
families have. This is especially true when the family has money and influence,
and the feeling like they are being left out with the money. This is really
seen when Jules and Cam return to the house and the ugliness and pettiness that
comes out of Cam's cousins and great Aunt is just appalling. I do not think
that there is one nice things said to them while they are there, everything is
extremely petty, snide or cruel. You can understand why Camden left and never
wanted to return.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">There are so many lies secrets,
double crosses that you don’t know which voice to trust in this book, as you
can tell that they are all holding on to a few secrets along the way. There is
quite a bit of family meddling that goes on in both timelines and sometimes
that meddling is between people that you did not think that it would occur between.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">This was a quick and interesting
read once you get into it, but I will say that I found the very beginning a bit
slow. It wasn’t until we got the first few chapters from Ruby's POV that I
really found myself invested in the book. I found that Ruby's POV was the most
interesting one, but not the only one with twists. I was able to figure out
Jules' twist but only some of Camden's. Really, I think that if Hawkins did
Camden's character a disservice, he could have been interesting and I wish that
Hawkins would have had more to him. I do find it interesting that although he
wanted nothing to do with Ashby House and the money, yet he never actually got
rid of either. Maybe it was just a small act to keep going what Ruby wanted,
but it is never really explained why he did decide to still hold on to it.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: georgia;">I enjoyed the
letter format that Hawkins used for Ruby's part and it just makes sense overall
in the context of the book as it allows for 2 timelines of events but have them
interact in a seamless way. I also liked that Jules breaks the fourth wall throughout
the book, makes it feel like she is talking directly to you as the reader.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: georgia;">This was a good
book and once I was able to get into the story I did enjoy it. If you enjoy a
book that has a lot of family meddling and secrets, then you will enjoy this
one. Another good book from Hawkins and I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next.</span></p>

back with the second book in her Crown of Shards book and this time Evie is
looking to protect people from death instead of inflicting it:</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: georgia;">Everleigh Blair
might have started as the low in the court as one could be, became a gladiator
and then became the Queen of Bellona. Court Life has not gotten better since
becoming Queen, instead of being in the background, she now has to deal with
meddling nobles. Unfortunately, Evie remembers every slight that has ever
occurred against her. If that was not enough Evie an assassin tries to kill
Evie in her own throne room. Despite all the dangers, Evie knows that she needs
allies more than ever, which is why Evie needs to go to the Kingdom of Andvari
to talk alliance. But there are Dark forces at work inside the Kingdom of Andvari
and soon Evie realizes that no one is safe.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: georgia;">This one
basically picks up right when the first book left off, only a few months have
passed, and I appreciated that, as there has not been that many times for
actions to be taken against Evie. This book has less action than the first as
this is not gladiators based like the first one so I did miss that aspect at
times but loved the court and political intrigue. But with the less fighting we
get a book that is more spy and cunningness that Evie and all the other
individuals in the group.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: georgia;">Evie is a great
character doing what it takes to not only survive but protect her kingdom. Nice
to see more development of her power. I also like that Evie is ever protective
of the people around her. It was nice to get more of a history about Evie and
how she became an orphan.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">The book are still light on
world building, so I still have questions. Why do the Morton’s hate everyone
and want to rule it all. There has to be a story there. Love the magic system
and variety of powers that are presented throughout the book. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">I was able to figure out who
the traitor was as well as one other aspect of the book that I will reframe
from talking too much about as it is a bit of a spoiler (though I thought it
was pretty obvious).<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">I really enjoyed this book and
it was a great follow up book to the first one. Cant wait to get to the third
and final book in this series to see what Estep has in store for readers next.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

though she has no memories of the event that happened:<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: georgia;">Five years ago,
Lucy's best friend, Savvy, was murdered, not only is this devastating to Lucy,
but Lucy was found wandering, covered in Savvy's blood. What starts out as Lucy
also being a victim is twisted into Lucy being the one to kill Savvy. Lucy
should be able to clarify what happened that night, but Lucy has no memory of
that night. With not enough to charge Lucy, but a town willing to convict her.
Lucy left, to find a place where no one knows who she is. That changes when the
Pod Cast Listen for the Lie decides to look into Savvy's death and is drumming
up notoriety that Lucy does not want. When the host decides to visit her home
town, Lucy is forced to go back and confront the past and horrible events she
ran away from, she doesn’t want to regain those memories just in case she did
it, just in case she really did kill her best friend.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: georgia;">This is the first
book that I have read by Tintera and after reading this one it will not be the
last. The twists keep on coming in this book both related to the murder of
Savvy and the craziness of secrets in this small town will knock you back each
time. I enjoy that Tintera did not just focus on the murder of Savvy but
realized that the small town secrets all affected what happened to Savvy.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">You cannot help but feel sorry
for Lucy for a good chunk of the book. Not only does she not remember what
happened to her best friend, but everyone around her (including her parents)
believe that she murdered Savvy. This leads her to questioning herself, could
she have killed Savvy. I enjoyed and that it was unique that Lucy murders
people in her head and this happens basically every interaction that she has especially
when she doesn’t like someone. Lucy gets creative in the ways she murders
people and always takes into account what she has on hand to use. This is a
constant in the book, and really adds weight to Lucy’s thoughts that she may
have killed Savvy.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">Does it add anything to the Pod
Cast book genre. I would say yes and no, it is hard to really add anything new
to this sub-genre but I will say that Trenten did feature more people in the
Podcast than I have read in other books, which i appreciated as it really
showed that most of the town was against Lucy and in doing so reveal additional
secrets of the town. I would like to know in real life how podcasters choose
which unsolved murder(s) in random small town that they choose. What are the
boxes that need to be ticked to choose that one over others.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">I really enjoyed this book by
Tintera, and although I was able to guess what happened to Savvy, I will say
that Tintera had me questioning my guess till the very end. Highly recommended
book, you're going to want to read this one in one sitting.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

new series, Ivy Asher has a woman who finds out where she came from, one that
is full of more danger than anyone could ever have guessed:<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: georgia;">Vinna's life has
been full of secrets and questions, especially when one night when she is 16 strange
ruins show up all over her body. These ruins give Vinna amazing abilities and
when her trainer Talon finds her on the street he starts to train her to fight.
It is after one of her cage fighting matches that Vinna stumbles into a world
that she knew nothing about, but one that has the answers to her magic and past
plus possible a family she has been longing for, especially when she meets the
Boys. The road to finding the answers Vinna wants is a dark and dangerous as
there are those that want Vinna for their own purposes.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: georgia;">I knew nothing
about tis book when I went in to is, I just liked the cover and the premise
sounded like something I would enjoy. I'm a fan of Urban Fantasy so if
something can pique my interest I'm going to try it. I will say I did not
realize this book was going to be a reverse harem book, at least I think it is
going to be, I mean I have been wrong before, but if it is one, it seems like
it will be a slow burn one, so maybe I’ll be more into that, but no promises. I
will also say that we get a really interesting beginning and ending to this
book but nothing really seems to happen through the middle chapters. I mean it wasn’t
slow per say but just nothing major happens in the middle.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: georgia;">What kept me engaged
in this book was the main character Vinna, she is your kickass heroine who is
both a regular fighter, due to her fighting in cage matches, and she has some
really cool abilities with the ruins all over her body. She has the ability to
pull magic weapons from the ruins on her body and not just swords, but staff,
bow and arrows, mace, almost anything that you can think of. As this book
starts with an awesome cage match and fight scene, I was kind of disappointed
that it took so long for Vinna to return to the cage.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: georgia;">There is not a lot
of world building in this book, even when you get to the town. There are some
things that I still want to know, why shifters are looked down upon by the
mages and more about how the council is formed things like that. I mean it didn’t
take away from the story but I still have questions.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: georgia;">Pretty sure Asher
needs to send me Vinna's workout playlist, i know i could Jam out to it. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">Although this book was slow in
the middle, I really did like Vinna as a character as well as the cool powers
that she has. The last 25% of this book are crazy and with action and
completely heartbreaking. It ends with a cliffhanger, so I know that I will be
picking up the next book in the series.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

novel Kat Ailes explores what happens when a death happens so close to a
prenatal class in a small town.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: georgia;">Alice and her
partner Joe have decided to move from London to the small sleepy town of Penton
because they are expecting their first child together. The agree that the small
town feels like the perfect place to raise a family. That is until a local shop
keeper's body is found just a few feet from where Alice and Joe are attending
their prenatal class. What Alice and Joe also don’t expect is that somehow
everyone in the class is now a suspect. With that in mind, Alice and the other women
in the class has a common goal, to prove that they did not murder the shop
keeper and find out who did. Penton is far from the idyllic town that they
thought it would be and between the shady commune in the woods to a mysterious
death that occurred 10 years prior, moving to the country may not have been the
best thing.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: georgia;">I really enjoy
small town mysteries as I find that while the small town may look quant to those
who are just visiting you have to know that there are probably secret galore in
that town as well. Hard to keep secrets when everyone knows each other. What
makes this one different from books that you have read in the past is the main
two individuals who do the detecting are Pregnant, well along pregnant, like
could pop at any moment. This add a unique perspective in what Alice decides to
do, I mean when you're pregnant and already off work what better way to spend
your time than to investigate a murder.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: georgia;">This is a cute
cozy mystery that is not that high on suspense and more about a very pregnant
women and one who just had a baby try to figure out who a murderer is. There
are some different aspects with the hippie compound that seems to be the center
of it all, as well as the death that occurred 10 years ago that seems
suspicious. With all this i will say that Ailes did a good job of keeping
things straight and not confusing. I was able to figure out one twist but not
the other. We only get Alice's POV in this book so i feel like you get to know
her quite well and her motivation to investigate the murder is really seeded in
her need to find friends.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: georgia;">Helen is the best
character and I will not be swayed from this. Really Helen is the hero here.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: georgia;">I like that Ailes
highlights at the beginning of a book how hard it is to root up one's life when
they are older and how much harder it is to make friends as an adult. It's like
we all forgot how to make friends and are just overly concerned that we will
say the wrong thing, that we do say the wrong thing. Alice i very conscious of
this and often put her foot in her mouth.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: georgia;">The book did feel
overly long by the end of it though and everything get tidied up in a neat bow. I think you can also tell with the writing style that this is Ailes debut novel but I have no issue with that.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: georgia;">This was a good
easy read, with some fun and funny moments. If you want a break from more
serious books, this is one to give a try. I mean they are pregnant, why not

You will at the very least need to read the first book in this series <b><u><span style="color: #04ff00;"><a href="https://j9books.blogspot.com/2022/11/kelley-armstrong-murder-at-havens-rock.html"><span style="color: lime;">Murder at Haven's Rock</span></a></span></u></b> in order to understand what Haven's rock is about. However, if you have time I highly reccomend the series that this one is a spin off from, the Rockton series, first book is <b><u><span style="color: #04ff00;"><a href="https://j9books.blogspot.com/2019/07/kelley-armstrong-city-of-lost.html"><span style="color: lime;">City of the Lost</span></a></span></u></b>. Even just reading the first book in that series will set you up with a bit more understanding for this one.</span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">Kelley Armstrong is back in the latest Haven’s Rock first and this time a boy’s life is at stake:</span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">Detective Casey
Duncan and Sheriff Eric Dalton already feel comfortable in their new town,
hidden in the Yukon Forest but even they are still learning the new forest
around them and the new residents in town are even more unprepared in the
forest coming from "down south" which is why people are not allowed
to wander in the forest alone. While on a planned hike, the youngest member of
the town Max (10 years old) is started to see a bear chasing them, but this is
no ordinary Bear, Max swears that it was running on two legs and had human
eyes. Casey and Eric know the dangers a bear can present, and they set off to
find the bear, but while they are gone Max disappears into the forest. Some say
he has run off, some say he was taken. it is up to Casey and Eric to find him,
but strange occurrences are happening all around them, in town and in the
forest and they are not sure what they are up against.</span></div><div style="text-align: left;">
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">What I really enjoy about
Armstrong's writing is that she does not rely on dead body after dead body in
order to keep readers attention, instead she relies on old fashion detective
work, tracking and setting to create a tense atmosphere to keep it suspenseful and interesting <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">In this book, we have a missing
child which is the main focus for Casey and Dalton and it is about uncovering
clues hidden within the forest and from the residents in town in order to piece
together what happened and where Max could have gone and if someone had him.
Are there additional interesting side plots where things will be taken further
in additional books, absolutely but I found that they were done in a way that
intertwined well with this story that it did not become confusing. It
personally just made me want to read further in the series to see where
Armstrong will take things.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">As Haven's Rock is a new place
for those who need a place to hide for a few year, it has new rules compared to
Rockton. This is really seen with having kids and couples in town instead of
just allowing singles to enter. This has created a new dynamic that Casey and
Dalton must deal with, as well couples fight, children are curious and Casey
and Dalton are still getting a feel for the place. Their authority get
questioned a lot more here as well. I personally love the new dynamic and it
adds something new from the previous series. And wow, the bomb that gets
dropped in this book is just amazing.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">I enjoy that Casey and Dalton
spent a lot of time in the forest and that the forest is a big unknown here as
Dalton did not grow up here and it is not as predictable of a place as it was
in their previous home. I think that this unknown forest gives the book
additional suspense as they look for Max, as they don’t know the woods like they
did before. Their hands are more tied here and they must rely more on Storm and
Dalton's tracking skills to try and find him. You can tell on more than one occasion
that they are frustrated with their progress and you have to even wonder how
much easier their job might have been if they were still in Rockton<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">One of my favorite additions to
this book/setting is their mysterious neighbours, Casey and Dalton know that
they cannot trust them, but cannot quite figure out what they are doing way out
in the Yukon. There was a lot more interaction with them as well in this book
and I can't wait to see that subplot unfold even further in future books. I
feel like there is more to come to head with them sooner rather than later<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">I like Alice’s character growth.
even though we don’t see a lot of her in this book, the scene with Kenny is
super sweet.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">Another solid book by
Armstrong. I am a big fan of Dalton and Casey so anytime they are in a book you
know i'm going to pick it up. I highly recommend this series, and reading it in
order, to fully appreciate the characters, setting and storylines that
Armstrong has set up.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

Plus Fourth Wing is an amazing book and you will not be disappointed that you read it.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: georgia;">Rebecca Yarros is
back, with the second book in her Empyrean series, and the stakes are even
higher for violet</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: georgia;">Violet has defies the odds when she survived the first year
of training at the Basgiath War College, but now the real training begins as
Violet especially with the introduction of a new Vice Commandant who makes it
his own personal mission to not only break her but her bond with Xaden as well.
What the Vice Commandant doesn’t realize is who Violet and if there are a few
things that she learned in first year it was that dragon rider never give up
and that they make their own rules. Violet will do anything in her power to not
only protect those she loves but the whole world, but even that may not be
enough.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: georgia;">I am really glad
that I held off to read this book when I had time to actually read it as I did
not want to put it down. I made sure to avoid any reviews or spoilers so I
could go into the book without any additional information other than the
premise. And I will say that this book shook me, especially
with that ending that I did not see coming at all and how what occurs will
shape everything within the world and story that Yarros has created. I really applaud
Yarros for many of the choices she makes in this book and how far she is
willing to push the characters (and readers).</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">Now this book is not Fourth
Wing, and I mean that in a positive way as she does not just rehash what
happened in Fourth Wing. This book does not have as many fighting or action
scenes as fourth wing does, but that is due to the fact that Violet is not
fighting for survival in every class that she has. What this book has more of
is political intrigue and spying where you do not know who you can trust and
who knows what about what is happening beyond the Shields. I also found that
this book was darker than the first book and as there is more at stake than
just having Violet survive. Does this make the book feel slower at times, sure,
but that does not mean that the book lacks the ability to suck you in.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">The Dragons once again are a
start in this book and I think even those people who do not enjoy this series
or book will all say that they love the Dragons. Andarna is the stand out here
with her moody teenagerness and the strife it causes Tairn. I know I laughed
more than once during their interactions. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">Now for the aspects of the book
I was not the fan of, and I cannot be the only one here. But was anyone else
get sick of Violet and Xaden bickering nonstop about the same thing.
Communication was not their strong suit in this book and it showed time and
time again when they were together. Violet wanted answers but according to
Xaden she wasn’t asking the right questions and this led to more secrets and
bickering that I wanted to read.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">I also hope that we will get
more Xaden POV in the next book, other than a tidbit here and there. I think
having his POV more frequent will be important in time with the event of this
book and well I just love Xaden as a character.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">This was a great read but did
not quite live up to the first book Fourth Wing, which is okay. I love the
direction that Yarros is taking the plot and characters and I cannot wait to
read the next book in this series.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

starts a new series that Honey Badgers Do Care but only to those who are close
to them:</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: georgia;">Honey Badgers are
known as vicious creatures that will never back down, even the king, The lion
knows to fear them. When Honey Badgers are involved, it is better to just back
away slowly. This is true for Hone badger shifters as well, and even more true
for the MacKilligan Sisters; Charlie, Max and Stevie. When their father comes
up with a scheme that backfires (like they always do), the sisters always seem
to take the brunt of the whomever he has pissed off. Charlie has always
protected her sisters and this latest bout against them is no different, but
she is not about to turn down the help from giant Grizzley protection
specialist especially when it seems like they can handle her crazy family and
all the drama and fights that come along with it. Now Charlie needs to find her
father, figure out who he pissed off this time, and make sure that they know to
leave the MacKilligan sisters alone, forever.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: georgia;">I honestly did
not know what I was getting in to when I started this book as it is the first
one I have read by Laurenston but Wow did this book deliver. This book had
everything that I like in urban fantasy books that feature shifters; different
types of shifters, dark and gritty aspects, quite a bit of action scenes and
not too heavy on the romance. There are moments in this book that are extremely
crazy and insane as what is happening but it is an Urban Fantasy book so you
just go with it, you wont be disappointed that you did.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">The interaction between the
sisters is hilarious and had me laughing out loud multiple times in this book.
You have Charlie who tries to control everything as well as her sisters and
bakes when she is stressed (which people do not complain about as she is
amazing at it), Max who is well on her way to becoming a psychopath who loves
knives and the youngest Stevie who is a legit genius but also suffers from a severe panic
disorder and I mean severe. But all this works together and they do not shy away
from being honey badgers or from what makes each of them unique. They play with
each others strengths and weaknesses and always have each others back. It is
easy to say that each of them are badass in their own way<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">Each sister does get some POV,
but Charlie is the main character in this book. There are also some side
characters that have POV as well, and I liked this aspect as it gave a bit more
depth to the plot to make it feel well rounded when it came to the plot, which
often was left by the side at times when the sisters got under each other’s
skin. It truly is amazing how much One Man can piss so many people off.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">I like that there are hybrid
shifters in this book to change things up. There are also shifters that you do
not normally see, first of all honey badgers, but also polar bears and wolverines.
There is also a full were society out there but somehow humans don't know about
them. I mean I feel like this would be extremely hard to hide, but it’s a minor
part of the story. I mean one is even marrying a Human and the Human has no
idea that she is a shifter which will be a crazy thing to explain if the kids
are born shifters.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">I think there were two things
that felt a bit off to me, it was a bit long winded, and the whole criminal
organizations, yes more than one, was not something that played out really well
and as the book already felt too long, adding in another layer just felt like
overkill to me. This in turn made the mystery/plot aspect a bit off.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">This was such a wild and crazy
ride, that I don’t even know how to put into anything other than those words. I
really enjoyed this book. Honestly the best part of this book is the sisters,
and I look forward to reading the next book in the series to see what the
sisters get up to next. I would recommend this book to those who like shifter
books and are looking for something a bit different in the genre.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

Nicki is also not the only one who has gone missing, at least 3 women are missing and have been linked together and the agony of not knowing does not just haunt Lucy but the other families as well.It has now been one year and Lucy is trying everything she can in order to find who may have taken her sister. The more risks that Lucy is willing to take put her closer and closer to her own danger.</div><div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">I slept on this book too long as I find that Howard can be hit or miss for me, but this one was totally a hit and this is no wonder as it hit on some key things that I enjoy in mystery/thriller books; Bad guy perspective, twists and turns along the way, multiple POV, small town fee to it (even though it is Dublin). </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">What I really enjoy about Ryan Howard books is that we typically get the persepctive of the bad guy. Gives you insight as to why they do what they do. In this one we get a lot of detail from how he did things and how he got so successful in his practice in getting the women but also evading the police. This was my favourite POV in the book as i found it really intriquing and slightly different from when you read the killer's POV. We do get Lucy's and a civilian worker, Angela's POV as well (in order to get the police information perspective) and while those other two POV are interesting, i think the the killer POV is the most interesting. </div><p>There are quite a few major twists throughout the book and while the majority of them come in latter half of the book the build up was well done. It was awesome not to be able to predict where Howard was going to take things in this book and I think she shed light on some of what happens in the police department of making things Fit when they need to as well as shining a light on the media as to how when the 17 year old is reporting missing the media is all up in arms but when "older" women in their 20s are reported nothing is really said. I found it extremely impressive that that Howard did not take the easy way out and you’ll either appreciate for what it is or not, but i thought it was not only a bold choice but one that I really liked. </p><p>For some reason this book felt a little long, even at just over 350 pages in my kindle. I cant figure out or pinpoint why i felt this, maybe as there are multiple POV and some are go in very different directs but it just felt a bit long to me. </p><p>If you have been considering reading this book i would say move it farther up your TBR list. I really enjoyed it and when the twists stop coming they do not stop. I know i'm going to be reading more by Howard.</p><div style="text-align: left;">Enjoy!!!!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><b><span style="color: #990000;">If You Like This,</span></b></div><div style="text-align: center;"><b><span style="color: #990000;">Check These Out Too:</span></b></div><div style="text-align: center;"><b><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://j9books.blogspot.com/2021/05/catherine-ryan-howard-nothing-man.html"><img border="0" data-original-height="400" data-original-width="250" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRfvfyi_-IGhuOPkhSOreyOcPryOQTrPuBA5CMQUtkflIeGmfCGeWtlI69MQc7uohrnQ3PmRgzgsM5_1I7zq4ikWpRWqnt_w51q4xQcv1Ei_jwkhydT3UQ-EySWKDKPccXd0e3mfqGTNqSe9HKvGKJVvmSIrDY0_2nbCMS0UXj5hQzr-83uNcfDvzE4J-I/w125-h200/51166217.jpg" width="125" /></a> <a href="https://j9books.blogspot.com/2022/09/hannah-mary-mckinnon-you-will-remember.html"><img border="0" data-original-height="2700" data-original-width="1806" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPvD_NMxbSpBgeh27yrJeaDPE8_830uIWBxE8p2wMXt7__ZVzNjoHOgTeH-B8zDpC-57Iwg2mqirH9rTbpcYHp09Qgh2ZHJV1lntiLSktr2B-rmHiWMkzVNSuGQExqUzXsuEJvkJEaz9n3SajXhrdshV_Ow5effDTFiL6UK3qWYeV8WNkywlp-2kN2p8yr/w134-h200/55004543.jpg" width="134" /></a> <a href="https://j9books.blogspot.com/2023/10/nj-mackay-quiet-dead.html"><img border="0" data-original-height="500" data-original-width="326" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUChvab1ATpZyAgPL9_p08g_EB7C8x8RA_XtV3J31VNy7f2hy-HV2kZXO3vsaiW1NqGaVcbglw3ep8BMI6PZNPsMPyKjv-MyJGdPilo9CB3yxMvqkEPcZiw1GRdEEdQxEd4zxcS6ATqiy_ya8a4ZjpHRv_nx7qcp02E7QkgoG7lJ81pvhVbHHLuaBt6adQ/w131-h200/160280508.jpg" width="131" /></a></div></div></div></b></div></div>Blood Rose Bookshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01131354776661982287noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2610872666699266078.post-21549737165959534592024-01-15T14:19:00.000-08:002024-01-15T14:19:51.875-08:00Darcy Coates: Where He Can't Find You<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj79W1Zbm6Bzp5QF8qlGX1oMRD0ko3skqdpQOdxqa1yLJjonR62_5lwYtmVb6lb21Vj8NiuNUXr51yR4AOzRtH8FucGTAihsESEF8vjteuNX4GYnafCrfdVALFd1wzgMs1kKicuhYZd7J2K3crW0m77eG-JmykjhifB3BWVUx3Gv5Z-wsegIfeNu2Asx9k5/s2400/123262468.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2400" data-original-width="1600" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj79W1Zbm6Bzp5QF8qlGX1oMRD0ko3skqdpQOdxqa1yLJjonR62_5lwYtmVb6lb21Vj8NiuNUXr51yR4AOzRtH8FucGTAihsESEF8vjteuNX4GYnafCrfdVALFd1wzgMs1kKicuhYZd7J2K3crW0m77eG-JmykjhifB3BWVUx3Gv5Z-wsegIfeNu2Asx9k5/w133-h200/123262468.jpg" width="133" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;"><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: georgia;">Darcy Coates
takes readers to the town of Doubtful, where if you follow the rules the
Stitcher Shouldn't be able to get you:<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: georgia;">Rule number one,
never walk alone, rule 2, never stay out late or the Stitcher is going to get
you. The town od Doubtful is one that is haunted of disappearances and when
they are found, they have been murdered, dismembered, and put back together in
unspeakable ways. The thing that connects them all, is the use of Red Thread
used to sew them back together. Abby Ward always follows the rules, the rules
keep her and family and friends safe. When one of them is taken by the Stitcher
Abby will stop at nothing to discover the truth and get them back, but not
everyone is going to come out whole in this story.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: georgia;">Wow, this is the
first book that I have read by Coates and it won’t be the last, you better
believe I am going to check out her other books. This book grabs hold of you
from the prologue and does not let down till you are finished. Within the book
Coates is able to creates a novel/plot that is dark, gritty, mysterious, had me
on the edge of my seat and was downright disturbing at times. I did not want to
put this book down, I was just as invested as the characters in trying to find
out Who or What the Stitcher was.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">Is YA horror a genre? I don’t
know if I would suggest a teen reading this book, it is downright disturbing at
times with what the Stitcher does to his Victims, like disturbing. I mean just
starting with the prologue would be something that could give anyone nightmares
and the farther you read into the book it does not get any lighter.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">This book has teen as the main
characters and they are the ones investigating the disappearance and proving
that the Stitcher is actually Vickers and normally I do not like this troupe or
aspect as they keep the info to themselves and are smarter than the police
force. However, other than the new police Detective who has transferred into town,
Thompson (and he's too new to do anything really), the force is incompetent and
has just accepted that people will go missing and turn up dead in
"creative" ways. Hell, there is even talk in the book where they have
a pool going of which missing person will turn up next. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">There are A Lot of POV in this
book and it takes a bit to get them all straight but each does have a unique
voice and unique perspective on the Stitcher and who/ what they think the
Stitcher is. They also have different reasons for doing what they do, from
wanting to protect their families to avenging deaths that occurred before the
book started. What the multiple POV really highlighted in this book was the
intense friendship in the group and what they are willing to do for each
other. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">I love that Coates had me
questioning for the majority of the book whether the Stitcher is a
Man/Beast/Something else entirely. And let’s just say when you find out the
answer it is truly horrifying.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">I really loved this book.
Coates was able to create such tension, suspense and thrills throughout the
book that you feel the need to just keep reading to see what happens next. I
highly recommend this book to those who like Thriller and Horror genre. I know
I am not going to look at red threads the same again.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

in a series, Eva Chase explores when a Human has the ability to save Werewolves
from Madness:<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: georgia;">When Talia was 12
monster wolves killed her family and took her captive. She has now lived in a
cage for 8 years, forever trying to find a way to escape. Once a month her
captures come and take her blood, she has no idea why, but it is what keeps her
alive. Until one evening when four men break into where she is being held
captive and she trades one prison for another. Though this one has a bed and
better food. Talia learns that her blood holds the cure to curse that has
gripped the Fae realm. Talia has survived this long and nothing is going to
stop her from trying to go toe to toe with the Fae now.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: georgia;">This was okay, at
best......The book starts off really interesting and strong with Talia being
held captive by but slows down around the 30% mark and it was very much about
Talia getting better and improving both mentally and physically with a side of
trying to figure out why and how Talia is the Tonic that prevents the wolves
from taking over in the full moon. The storyline does improve a bit near the
end, but not a lot happens throughout the book and it felt like a little bit
too late.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">Fae wolf Shifters, so think
werewolf but they also have the ability to learn and do some Fae magic. One has
the ability over things in the body, able to hear wounds and such another has
an ability over trees, can shape them into homes or carriages things like that.
I thought this aspect was pretty unique. I am bit confused about the world and
caste system that is going on in this world, as it's never really explained.
All we know is the 4 men who have "rescue" Talia are on the fringe of
it as a punishment of something that happened long ago.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">Whichever of Talia captures you
read about in this book, both treated her more like a pet than anything else,
just one treats her better than the other. This book completely has why
choose/RH vibes that look like they are going to happen (but don’t in this book
if that is what you are looking for).<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">Talia has been a prisoner for 8
years and I think that Chase did an okay job in showing not only the physical
implications she would have with living in a cage but also mental ones as well.
I think that Chase could have taken the mental aspect a bit farther as Talia
was taken when she was 12, I think would have a lot more long with her.
However, I cannot fault the strength and strangely compassion that Talia shows
throughout the book.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">This book has multiple POV. One
for each main character, and it kind of muddles things a bit to begin with and
i question the need for all of them. But the more you read in the book each one
does have a distinct voice. Talia does have the most chapters by far.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">This book had such a strong
beginning that I did feel a bit let down the rest of the book. The Fae wolf
shifter are interesting with their combination of Wolf and Magic but I'm not
sure if I will continue on in the series. I just didn’t really get a feel for
where the series is going to go, as not much happens in this book.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

this time one woman will do everything in her power to avoid her Toxic Ex:</span></div>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: georgia;">What is the best
way to get back at a horrible Ex? Why fake date another guy on his team that he
hates. Rory has sworn off all hockey players, but when her ex is traded to the
team that she works for she convinces one of the other teammates, and a guy she
used to go to school with, to pretend to be her boyfriend to try to keep her Ex
away. But while fake dating Rory, Hazel sees another side of him and how much
he cares and how much pressure has been put on him to succeed as a hockey
player. As more time passes Hazel begins to wonder if something that started
out as fake can actually be real.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: georgia;">After reading and
loving Behind the Net by Archer late last year I was really excited to read The
Fake Out, and while I enjoyed the book, I did not find myself invested in this
one as I did the first. This one was much more of a slow burn that the first
book and i found that there were big gaps in time when Rory was on the road and
while they kept in touch on the road we don't get all the interactions in that
time. So often we don’t really have their relationship moving forward as fast
as maybe i wanted it too, as there are several chapter that start with, A few
weeks later....<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">One of my favourite parts of the
books was the on the road interactions while the team was playing away games.
Not only were they funny but spicey too at times. I don’t think i have read a
contemporary romance book that took this into consideration when people are
away (though to be fair this is not a genre i read in often). It is much more
than just phone sex now, with video chat straight from the phone. Plus the
pictures and eventually videos they shared with each other, very now.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">I love all the body positive that
Archer made sure to have in this book, very much about loving oneself for who
the are and what they look like and recognizing that everyone is on a journey
and those journeys are not going to look the same. I found this aspect was
weaved really well into the story with what Hazel is trying to achieve in both
her personal and professional life.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">This book kind of has a fake
dating troupe to it, but you can tell that he has fallen for her right away and
it is totally not fake to him at all. With all the gifts he buys her, the tiny
little dragon is my favourite, and how he treats Hazel whether they are out in
public or not, the fake dating troupe falls off fast. Rory is a pretty awesome
book boyfriend. Hazel on the other hand, it was hard with her at times. She has
just generalized all hockey players as assholes and fights and I mean fights
hard at every turn for her growing feelings for Rory. There are times when you
just want to tell her to give her head a shake and appreciate what is right in
front of her.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">I love that Archer doesn't so the
third act breakup in the books i have read by her so far, she actually has her
characters communicate like normal people would and not getting blown up over
some small thing.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">I know that Hazel's ex is an
asshole, but i do wonder the reason behind it, and I actually would like to see
him get his own story have someone take him out of his asshole ways, maybe the
Blonde he was seen with during the community skate night. I am interested where
she takes the next book in the series, which features another hockey player
from the Storm team.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">I did enjoy this book, especially
Rory and getting tidbits of how Pippa and Jamie are doing. I also like how the
book felt fresh in the dating scene and even the hockey romance scene. For sure
one to check out.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

In chance meeting Evie find the perfect job as the assistant, it just comes with a side of things that may not be morally right, like murder and torture. However, Evie is determined to keep a smile on her face and make sure she can keep this job, even if a dead body happens to currently be on her desk.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: georgia;">For a debut novel I really like that Maehrer went for a light cozy fantasy book with just a side of mystery. I say just a side of mystery as it never felt like the hunt for the mole/spy was ever really front and centre but something literally on the side of Evie’s desk. This book is 340 pages and it feels like not a lot happened, unless you count relationship building but that is about it. It seems like Evie and The Villain just danced around each other, a lot.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: georgia;">Evie is the highlight of the book, I love how positive she is no matter what but at the same time is is a fairly morally grey character. Actually all the characters are morally grey in this book. I mean no one really questions the heads hanging from ceiling or how they got there.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: georgia;">I will say there are also some funny moments throughout, especially when the Villain is trying to Test Evie. I also like the side characters but they are not overly developed in this book.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: georgia;">I liked that there were duo POV but I wish there was more from the Villain’s doing his villainous this against the king. We only really get this in the prologue and one other scene.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: georgia;">The relationship between Evie and The Villain seemed a bit juvenile at times, and I think at times it felt forced. I just wasn’t really feeling what Maehrer was writing for them. I’m all for not having a relationship between the two main characters or have it slowly develop over multiple books but when a book is mainly centred on that fact I feel like it should not feel fake. </span></p><p><span style="font-family: georgia;">I really wanted to enjoy this book, I was totally onboard with the concept and premise. I’m on the fence whether I will pick up the second book in the series. This one does leave off on a cliffhanger but all the action and really information comes out in the last 10% of the book. Before that it kind of felt a bit like fluff.</span></p><div style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">Cheers!!!!</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #990000; font-family: georgia;"><b>Instead Of This,</b></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><b><span style="color: #990000;">Check These Books Out</span>:</b></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2475" data-original-width="1613" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtsahjkUefWKwdpvpFpCZ5B7JrnJzAvKFjemLDSCBUbt90qA9tQMfodjOdixg9mg6UUCNfAaEk8Eb4SnIiVcLOK79sESfrATxaIPm3fBymVSVGx7TYsa-i-nLRupo3Vp4iIQEOf4DMa7lva-WSPQu2VGzYHE1u75a1ZbFBgxPt9aVNvM3jytBQKbeU30CW/w131-h200/61242426.jpg" width="131" /></span><a href="https://j9books.blogspot.com/2023/08/annette-marie-taming-demons-for.html?m=1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="600" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjwnW8Kf7R9N1bzb3bKuSGREVQ5H0YCk_DoLNZgWsbKuLsY7wyawPnBsq4_6NSrY43ivq_sN1ipXBDwbcva2HhNajXlDPx_yZugoQNILvl1pZF5F4iarevIRkA-2quWwlAttEv6sPUzkjA1M4wuVX2AKEK3KbQnPK01-v_8gkrknuMl77dEOf4O8S3G6ba/w133-h200/44932446.jpg" width="133" /></span></a><span style="font-family: georgia;"><img border="0" data-original-height="475" data-original-width="314" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWgfe4fkaVhyhD3X63Xb6JSG8soDsi3kyRVJi0NtAzZ5l8M6UTu4Dodp4vUwgJsuFwr_0bOBrmatf3LbGYG8FECGFnu92b2-vTP1w9WqRlLzjNcg0AJ3DdEPBgaHOUlxkrb_CSHWL-Zg0BFIKh-bmtF4RlJAMPSuBQsAdGJF67VWrj1mat7PERRKPSWV9P/w133-h200/58920677.jpg" width="133" /></span></div><span style="font-family: georgia;"><br /></span><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://j9books.blogspot.com/2023/05/travis-baldree-legends-lattes.html?m=1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a></div><span style="font-family: georgia;"><br /></span><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://j9books.blogspot.com/2022/09/rachel-griffin-wild-is-witch.html?m=1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a></div><span style="font-family: georgia;"><br /></span><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div>Blood Rose Bookshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01131354776661982287noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2610872666699266078.post-70985216065927885322023-12-24T16:47:00.000-08:002023-12-24T16:47:40.664-08:00Kelley Armstrong: Hemlock Island<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9u9a2Ip9SV65UJ-eL91K4gCcc8By35oYVdHuhRxkGVhDEvtUHWO-dJunwmUfnSsIWJ130nCOqtUYy4OlTbf1bIQKTksRa-wwzkdpvjE8ueljnnfufIpNi90eiRUxoY-CEz82Zbd-iX0_RFHS4h5DTwy_9DhEm8t4rNZdunRKdVcGaCArabZjLbgMvEFot/s400/65214434.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><img border="0" data-original-height="400" data-original-width="263" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9u9a2Ip9SV65UJ-eL91K4gCcc8By35oYVdHuhRxkGVhDEvtUHWO-dJunwmUfnSsIWJ130nCOqtUYy4OlTbf1bIQKTksRa-wwzkdpvjE8ueljnnfufIpNi90eiRUxoY-CEz82Zbd-iX0_RFHS4h5DTwy_9DhEm8t4rNZdunRKdVcGaCArabZjLbgMvEFot/w131-h200/65214434.jpg" width="131" /></span></a></div><span style="font-family: georgia;">Kelley Armstrong takes readers to a remote island with no cell service, no help and soon nothing but death:<br /></span><div style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">When Laney’s renters report a disturbing event at her rental Island, Laney is forced to go there with her niece to investigate. But when Laney shows up she is not the only one there to investigate, her ex-husband (Kit), his sister (Jayla), her ex-friend (Sadie) and her brother are all there. Each has their own reason for being there, but all of them are shrouded in secrets. When the group finds a hand sticking out from the ground, they know all is not well on the island and they discover their ways off the island have been destroyed. They are stuck on the island and there is someone on the island that is hell bent on murder</span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">I am a big fan of Armstrong and try to read the majority of the books that she releases. I was extremely happy to see her release one in the horror genre. To begin with this book very much gave me And Then There Were None vibes with the location and the beginning of missing people. However, while the vibe to begin with was there Armstrong very much morphed it into her own thing.</span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">It is hard to describe what occurs in this book without giving it away, so I’ll just say that the farther you read into the book, the darker, creepier and crazy is gets. You won’t be able to figure out what is happening and who is behind the murder and bodies but that is okay just enjoyed that ride. Trust me, this book totally did not go the way that I thought it would. And I cannot fault Armstrong imagination in this books for the darkness and scares that she creates.</span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">I personally wish there was more of a second POV in the book, even that of the bad “guy” just to round it out a bit more and not just have everything from Laney.</span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">There are a lot of secrets that come out in this book and part of me questions why they are needed in the book, maybe for some character development but really they do not add anything to the overall story. Maybe it just so happens that your root for some characters to survive over others.</span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">I really enjoy that Armstrong is expanding her library of works into genres that she has not published before. To me this says that she is growing as a writer. Will all the books be great as we compare them to the series we know and Love, No but it still speaks to someone wanting to grow and you have to respect that.</span></div><p><span style="font-family: georgia;">I really enjoy when a book does not go the way I think it will in this genre. questions how far someone will go to bury their darkest secrets:<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 13.5pt;">When Geo, Angela
and Kaiser were 16 they were inseparable, until Geo meets an man who makes her
feel things that she has never felt before. She starts to distance herself from
her friends so that she can be with Calvin more and more. But on the night of a
party, Angela does not return home, she disappears without a trace. 14 years
later, Geo is a rising start at a pharmaceutical company when secrets are about
to be discovered. Angela was a victim of a serial killer, a serial killer who
has been ID as Calvin, Geo's one time boyfriend. Geo has known what had
happened to Angela 14 year ago and has carried that secret all this time. Now
everyone knows the truth, but when bodies start to appear again in the same
manner as Angela's death, there are some truths </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 13.5pt;">This is the
second book that I have read by Hillier and probably one of her well know ones,
and after reading it I know why. This was a dark, gritty psychological thriller
book that pulls back the layers of the main character Geo time and time again.
It will have you on the edge of your seat as more information is reveal both in
the past and the present. With that said I was able to figure out what was
going to happen (for the most part) and who was the killer basically after the
first crime scene. However, figuring it out did not take away from my enjoyment
of the book, I was curious to see how Hillier would lay everything out.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 13.5pt;">I personally
enjoy books with two timelines. I will say that at times the past timeline felt
like it was taking a bit to long to get to Angela's murder and the events of
that night, but other than that i think that Hillier did a good job in
balancing them out.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 13.5pt;">Geo is a fascinating character,
that I don’t know if we ever get the true picture of who she is by the end of
the book, there are aspect of her character that are revealed that are simply outstanding
and unthinkable. There is a lot made in the past about Angela being a master
manipulation at 16, but I think Geo as an adult may just have surpassed that. I
think you feel for and hate Geo at the same time especially as you progress
farther into the past timeline. And her ability to keep the horrendous secret
for 14 years, is simply crazy.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 13.5pt;">Did I like the ending? I'm not
sure, maybe not what i wanted to occur, maybe a bit too safe. I think I wanted
Hillier to surprise me in this aspect and go for something a bit different.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 13.5pt;">I like play of this title of
the Jar of Hearts that Calvin gives Geo as well as the lyrics associated with
the song that just make so much sense with this book. If you have read this
book and have not looked up the song that shares this title i recommend it.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 13.5pt;">This was a great book and I can
see why it was touted as one of Hillier's best books. Even though I was able to
figure it out fairly early on I still enjoyed it and seeing how Hillier put all
the pieces together. I know I'll pick up another book by her.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

returns with a prequel to see how Viv starts her mercenary career:<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: georgia;">Viv is on one of
her first quests with Rackam's Ravens and she is wanting more than anything to
prove herself but things dont quite go as planned. Forging ahead of the team,
leaves Viv severely wounded and forced to take rest in a sleepy sea side town
of Murk. What' a mercenary to do with so much down time, well explore the town,
befriend a bookshop owner and she'll soon realize that adventure is still not
too far away.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: georgia;">You could read these
books in any order as Legends and Lattes came out first and this is Viv's
prequel and other the Epilogue there is nothing that would ruin Legend and
Lattes if you decide to read this book first. I enjoyed getting to know Viv
more in this book and see her as she was just starting out with Rackem's Ravens
and her earnestness to impress. She is young and full of life and just wanting
to have a sword in her arm at all times. You just get to see what a good person
(Orc) that Viv is.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">The thing that I realized about
this book is that Viv does not need the stone in Legends and Lattes she is just
a good person who draws other good people in. It makes me wonder if she lost
that somewhere along the way or she just didn’t have confidence in herself in
regards to it. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">As much as I love Viv all the
side characters are great as well, full of personality and even growth in the
book as well. I think that every reader would love to visit or own Fern's
bookshop.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">I love that this series fits within
the cute cozy mystery/fantasy read with a medieval feel to it. The storyline
and world is easy to follow and just all around fun read. I enjoy all the
characters and creativity that Baldree has with the type of characters in the
book.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">I hope that Baldree either creates
more stories surround Viv or even just creates more stories in this world. I
really do love it.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

takes readers down south where a generational curse is after another daughter:<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: georgia;">How does one
combat a generational curse, when you know that the curse is coming for you
next. Susana knows that when her 18th birthday hits, the swamp will come to
take her, just like it did her momma before her. But she does not want to die,
she wants to find a way to break the curse so that she can live a full life and
be with the boy that she has always wanted to be with.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">Well this book did not go as planned.
I will say that it is well written and George's description in regards to the
swamp are excellent but I thought this book was going to be a dark horror or psychological
thriller but it was not. I think I would classify it as southern gothic
romance, maybe, I'm not really sure, it just was not what I was expecting based
upon the premise. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">I found I was never actually in
the mood to read this book, it felt too trying, confusing and just
disappointing in not getting what I thought the book was going to be about not
to mention slow as well. I picked this book up many times and would find i
would be putting it to rest a few chapters later as I just didn’t feel engaged
enough to continue on and then would try again a few days or even weeks later.
I mean I finished it but I cannot say I enjoyed the task of getting there. I
did the audiobook version of this book and this is not to say that the narrator
was lacking, she was amazing but it was the content and the flow of the story
that I was unable to get into.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">I did not like that the two
timelines had main characters with the same name and other than in the
beginning of the book, it was hard to differentiate between the two as similar
aspects and events were happening in each timeline. I get that George was
trying to point out that the curse had not changed even with the passing of
time, but still there needed to be some way to differentiate the two other than
some verb differences.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">Susana in the present time literally
does nothing to prevent her sleepwalking into the swamp, which she knows will
kill her. Even when she confides in someone about it and then a safe guard is
put in place she refuses to use it. Like what? You want to die? Also where are
the family in this book, I mean she lives with them and they know about the
curse but they really do nothing to see if Susana is okay? Are they okay if she
dies, like so many have before her and they have to know that she is thinking
about it as well, so where is the Love?<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">There is no doubt that George can
write and create a story. I do not know if the fault lies with George with the
premise as the book is sold as something that it is not, or mine and never
being in the right mood to read this book. I know I’m in the minority with my

has taken the retelling of a beloved Fairy Tale, Peter Pan, to the dark side:<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: georgia;">What if the Fairy
Tale had it wrong, that the evil person in the story was actually the good guy.
Hook has sought nothing but revenge from Peter, who had ruined his life when he
was a young child. The actions that Peter took, caused Hook to turn into the
man that he is, dark and depraved. Hook has always sought revenge and when
Peter's daughter, Wendy, is spotted in his club he knows he has the perfect way
to exact that revenge. But just as his plan is working, Hook's empire begins to
crumble he has a trader in his mix, or is it Peter again, realizing that his
daughter may be in danger and Wendy isn't sure who she is in a relationship
with, a man or a monster names Hook.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: georgia;">I'm all for fairy
tale retelling (even though I have only read a few) and this one takes it dark
with a retelling of Peter Pan, I totally thought this book would be more of a
fantasy read and less of a thriller/dark romance read, but I am okay with that.
I liked the little nods that McIntire made to the original story, like pixie
dust being the latest drug on the street and the Yacht that Hook lives on was
named the Tiger Lily as well as the ticking of the clock plays a major part.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: georgia;">I was pretty
hooked (pun intended) on the first half of this book, but somewhere along the
way it lost its sparkle. I think that this was due to the fact that I had
figured out what was going to happen and there was nothing was set out in the
book to question what had figured out. From that point on I found the book predictable
and not as entertaining, I mean the beginning of the book start out dark,
graphic and murder occurs but these aspect seem less in the second half of the
book and Hook is less Hook like.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: georgia;">I enjoyed that
McIntire had dual POV, of Wendy and Hook. They are two very different
characters with very different POV, yet they complement each other how McIntire
has it laid out. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">Wendy was pretty good character
and she has some character growth and changes throughout the book but at the
same time she chooses to stay blind and refuses to see the red flags that are
surrounding her.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">Hook is the star of this book.
He is a fascinating character and I liked certain aspects that McIntire brough
over from the story, like the ticking of the clock sound, that too Hook back to
a horrific place. I kind of wish that hook actually had a hook, or no hand with
interchangeable appendages to keep it a bit more similar to the story instead
of just a hooked knife. Hook is 100% a product from the upbringing that he
received and as much as he is dark, gritty, morally gray character you cannot
help but feel for him.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">This books started out amazing
but just seemed lacking in the second half. I really enjoyed Hook as a
character and he was my favourite part of the book This book is not for the
faint of heart and would be for readers who like their books on the darker
side. I know that McIntire has a full series of these dark fairy tale
retellings so i may have to try another one and how that it can keep the
darkness and pace from beginning to end. So I guess to sum it up I think this
book was good but could have been great.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

shows that sometimes a Hockey Player can help a Songbird and vice versa:</span><span style="font-family: georgia;"> </span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: georgia;">All Pippa wanted
to do was succeed in the music industry. She knew it would be hard work, but
that was her dream. When her Ex crushed her dreams, when his career started to
take off, Pippa knew she had to start fresh. But she never thought that she
would become the live in assistant not only to an NHL hockey star, but also the
guy that she had a crush on in Highschool. Jamie seems to have the typical
hockey ego, is extremely hot and grouchy too, but the more that Pippa interacts
with him, she realizes just how sweet and protective he is. Pippa knows that
nothing will probably come between her and Jamie but she is falling for him and
he may break her heart, but it might be worth it.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: georgia;">Alright, this is
probably the year that I have read the most contemporary romance books in a
very very very long time and I think that Behind the Net would be in my top 2.
This is the first book that I have read by Archer and it made me want to run
out and try the other books that she has written.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: georgia;">I really enjoyed
this book, I was a fan of the storyline, plot points and characters throughout
the book. This was an easy read that had drama, but not too much drama, was
able to make me laugh out loud at times, and just overall had a good mix of
being sweet and steamy.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: georgia;">I liked that this
book had dual POV so that we get both Pippa and Jamie's perspective. They are
two very different people when it comes to life (very sunshine and grumpy
feels) but I think that this complemented the dual POV that Archer decided to
have. It was funny to see how they saw different situations and how they chose
to act in them. The dynamic between Pippa and Jamie is also awesome i love when
they first start living together, there are some funny moments and tense
moments that occur.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: georgia;">Jamie is a
perfect grumpy guy, who has a heart of gold from the pup he rescues to taking
care of his mom and wanting to take care of Pippa too, no matter what form that
takes, plus he wants her to succeed in whatever she wants to do, he will
support her. He is just an all-around good guy.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: georgia;">I don’t know if
it is a spoiler or not but I love that there is not Third act breakup, that is
probably one of my biggest pet peeves within the contemporary romance genre.
Instead of a third act breakup Archer decided to do the more mature thing and
have the main characters talk and work on their relationship so that they can
get to their HEA</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">I picked this book up to take a
break from the darker genres that I read and I am so glad that i did. Archer
had me invested from the very beginning and I cannot wait to continue on with
this series. If you like forced proximity/fake dating and Grumpy/Sunshine,
Hockey Romance troupes then you will enjoy this book. <o:p></o:p></span></p>

novel, Carissa Orlando shows that a house can hold on to many things:<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: georgia;">Margaret and Hal
always wanted a big Victorian house, and once their daughter moves out to go to
school, they know that now is their chance to own their dream home. When they
purchase the home on Hawthorn Street, they couldn't believe their dreams had
come true. However, this home has a dark history that has chosen to stay within
except for the month of September, the house weeps blood, the souls trapped
inside the house become more present and sometimes violent. This would
have most people fleeing for their lives, but not Margaret, this is her house,
her home and she will do whatever it takes to ensure it stays that way. But
after 4 years, of Septembers Hal cannot take it anymore he wants out, and when
he goes missing, their daughter Katherine comes to the house to try and find
him.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: georgia;">This book was not
as scary as I thought that it would be but it is still the perfect for a spooky
read for October (or September) or really anytime of the year. The book is a
bit slower that I was expecting as well but it very much comes together with
the culmination at the end of the book. I still think about bones crunching and
crushing and it makes me cringe. There are points in the book where you really don’t
know how it will all play out and I liked the suspense that this created. I
think the main part that I did not like was that it was a bit predictable with
regards with Hal, I think that it is obvious from the beginning</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">I loved Margaret as a main
character and her ability to not only adapt but accept the pranksters (as she
calls them) for what they are, victims of horrible murders and knows that what
they are doing in their afterlife is not their or her fault. Even Julian the
one that likes to bite, she just knows that is she follows the rules, September
will be over, and things get back to relative normalcy. You also feel sorry for
why Margaret has had to adapt to any situation that she has been in and why she
creates rules that surround her life. She did not have a happy marriage and one
that seemed to get worse and worse as time went on. Margaret is for sure the
best part of this book<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">I normally prefer dual POV
books as it gives a more rounded story but this having only Margaret’s POV was
the right decision. As much as this book is about the house, it is really just
as much (or even more) about Margaret. Even though we only have her POV we get
to see what she has experienced in the past both within the house and before
the house, that give us a greater picture of what she has endured. Also, I was
not the biggest fan of the daughter Kathrine, so I'm happy that we did not get
her POV.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">This was a great debut novel, a
great spooky read and an amazing main character. If you are looking for a
Gothic type Horror book that I would say is not as dark as a lot out there,
pick this one up. I look forward to seeing what Orlando comes out with next.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

Bonam-Young, takes readers on a journey where one night can change everything:<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: georgia;">Winnifred
"Win" McNulty, does not want to be coddled for her limb difference,
she is perfectly capable of taking care of herself with a few minor
adjustments. When Bo, a stranger to Win, shows up at a Halloween party and beat
her pirate costume, a what is supposed to be a one-night stand occurs. But that
one-night stand changes everything. Bo surprisingly wants to be involved in all
aspects and to help Win out as much as he can or she'll allow and Win does not
know if she can handle this new challenge all by herself. Bo and Win decide to
get to know each other just as friends, but as they know things do not always
go according to plan.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: georgia;">First I have to
say that I really like the pun in the title, I don’t think I have seen a better
title for a book in a long time, so well done Bonam-Young.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">I do not read a lot of contemporary
romance book but I highly recommend this book, it was very wholesome, and it
was all about the building of relationship. You know from the premise that a
supposed to be one night stand turns into a baby happening, which basically
forms the whole basis of the story in trying to build some type of a relationship
because baby is coming and they both want to be part of that baby's life<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">It was really cute how the two of
them met, pirates nonetheless and you can see that they are very much drawn to
each other right away as they share in their acceptance in the disabilities
that they have. Win who has had her's her whole life and Bo, still learning to
cope with having his leg amputated. I like that Bonam-Young does not make a
"big deal" about the disabilities that each has, they are there and
are a part of the people and who they are but it does not overshadow their other
characteristic and they are not all about their disability.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">Bo is very puppy dog, cinnamon
roll, whatever you want to call a good all around guy and super sweet you
just have to fall in love with him. Plus, when you hear all that he has faced
and how he ended up losing his leg, you realize how much this new possible of a
life means to him. Win is just a determined character who charges headfirst in
to life, and doesn’t want to ask for help or be coddled, she is doing fine,
even when maybe she isn't. You have to love her drive and her wants for the
future are amazing and you start to love her as a character as well.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">As I said before I have not read
that many contemporary romance books, so i wasn’t sure what to expect, many
seem to have the third act trope, which I am not a fan of, but I was really
happy that this one did not succumb to that.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: georgia;">Fuck me, this
book is a little bit of sunshine and I am 100% here for it. I really loved this
whole story, from characters to the relationship that Win and Bo try to build together,
it just was really solid. Plus Bonam-Young is a Canadian Author so I'm always
happy to support Canadian. I know I will be checking out her other books.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

new series N.J. MacKay, when a man confessed to a murder turns out to be
innocent:<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: georgia;">Hayley DaSilva
walks in on a scene that no one should, the murder of her mother, brother, her
brother's friend and her youngest brother missing and who was never found. He
farther admits to the murder and is convicted and sentenced to life in prison.
15 years later, when a new development is being put in, small bones are dug up
from the ground. They belong to Ethan DaSilva, he has finally been found.
Hayley now lives in America in a new life, one where no ones knows that her
family has been murdered. When she receives the phone call that Ethan has been
found, she goes back to England and is forced to face the truth about what
happens. DI. Sebastian Locke is assigned to the case and right away, he can
tell that the case was not handled well and they were too quick to convict a
man and the really murderer is out there. But 15 years has past, can DI Locke
finally get justice for the DeSilva family?</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">I liked that Mackay does not do
flashbacks other that what the characters remember, which is not much due to
drugs and alcohol consumed at the time. I think that this made it harder to put
the evidence together, for both the reader and the investigators in the book,
as people are being asked to remember things from 15 years ago. There is never
really a clear suspect within the book as the investigators continue their
investigation, I enjoyed this, as it kept me on my toes in trying to figure out
what happened back then and who has gotten away with murder. I will say I did not have it all figured out, which does not happen very often.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">There are dual POV in this
book, one of our investigator DI. Sebastian Locke and the only survivor of her
family Hayley DeSilva and I did not mind this, but at the same time, I found that
Hayley's POV were repetitive at times. She was not able to add much to the
investigation, so I found some of her chapters felt slightly like filler
chapters. They do make you care for Hayley as a character as you feel really
sorry for her for what she has suffered, but that is not the point of the book,
the point of the book is to solve what is now a cold case.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">You have to admire DI Locke in
the book, he is determined and wants everything done right, no matter where the
truth may take him. I also like that Mackay took time to make Locke seem like a
real person with having some of his family life shown in the book. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">This was a good book and a good
start to a series, I really enjoyed the cold case aspect and to me it seemed
the investigation was on point. I hope that Sebastian and Lucy work together
again, I think they had a good dynamic with each other. I would check out
another book in this series.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

in a new series, Shannon Mayer shows what happens when the Veil Falls:<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: georgia;">When the Veil
fell, humans soon realized that they were no longer at the top of the food
chain. The Veil that used to protect them from Werewolves, Vampires, Angels,
Demons and the Fae, they are now able to cross over whenever they want. When
the humans lost the war, they had to agree to send humans to be sold as slaves
a few times a year. Sienna has been running and she knows how not to be caught
by the slave runner, until she needs to be. She needs to be sold to the
werewolves so that she can find her little adopted brother Jordan and bring him
home. But Sienna get bought by a Vampire night for the Harvest Games, one that
becomes deadly to survive unless she can find a Vampire to help her, lust after
her to survive. But there are political moves going on in the background and
death may be immanent. </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: georgia;">This is the first
book that I have read by Mayer, and with the cliffhanger that this book has, I
know that I will be reading the next book in the series. I found that this book
had me hooked from the beginning and i was not expecting that. I really like
Sienna as a character from the very beginning she was strong and kind, even to
those that she just met and she didn’t take and shit from anyone. I basically
got sucked into her story, I would say that the general idea of the Harvest
games is very much The Selection but with more deadly consequences and the women
are not vying for one guy, but any vampire they can.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">While this book is about the
human women finding a vampire to eventually take care of them in the Harvest
games, I found that this was more of a side story overall, yes it affected some
of the scenes and plot of the book but there was so much more going on that I
did not mind this aspect (one I think I would normally not enjoy) especially
when things get deadly. I was really surprised the amount of the story that was
political and almost had a spy aspect to it, from both Sienna and the General's
avenues. I was also happy that Mayer decided to have dual POV for this book, as
it really rounded out the story.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">The world building here is simple
and not overly explained or complicated. I do have a few questions about why
the veil fell, seems like the vampires do not know either and why when the
Werewolves, Vampires, demons, Angles and Fae got together to defeat the humans,
it now seems that they are enemies? None of this is really explained, but I
found that this does not take away from the overall story and I think will be
explained further on.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">There is some romance/lusting in
the book, but it is a slower burn, which was okay with.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: georgia;">I really enjoyed this book; it
was an easy read that I was able to lose myself in. It had both dark and light
moments that i think that Mayer blended well. I really like Sienna as a
character, she is for sure a highlight of the book for me. I look forward to
reading the next book in the series, especially with that cliff hanger.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

novel, Clemence Micahllon shows the length a woman will go to, to survive:<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 13.5pt;">Aiden Thomas is
seen as a hard-working family man, who is now having to raise his daughter, Cecilia,
alone, after his wife passed away from cancer. But Aiden Thomas is not who he
seems, every night he visits a woman in the shed, a woman who cannot quite
remember what her life was like before, all she knows is that she is alive and
if she wants to stay that way she needs to follow the rules. But the rules are
about to change, as Aiden's life has changed, her life is about to as well,
maybe one that will lead to the opportunity to escape if she can be brave
enough, but 5 years of brainwashing, punishment, hurt and fear may have taken
that ability away from her, all she really wants to do is make sure that she
survives.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 13.5pt;">Michallon is another debut
author that I had the pleasure of reading this year and I think that the first
thing that people need to know before reading this book, that is more of a
domestic suspense read that a regular serial killer thriller book as most of
the main characters are living in a house together, this includes Rachel, the
Quiet Tenant. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 13.5pt;">I think what this book has in
spades is a feeling of suspense, how long will Aiden put up with Rachel, will
Rachel find a way out, will Cecilia figure something out or question this women
Rachel, and will Emily be able to trust her gut on things. In the same since, since
the suspense within the book is drawn out, it can feel slow at times, and
not having the plot move forward as fast as one may want it to. It almost
become that the chapters featuring Rachel were very the same each time, and i
do not know if this was deliberate or not to put emphasis on the life that
Rachel has been living in for so long.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 13.5pt;">You have to admire Rachel for
most of the story, even though so of the choices that she makes are frustrating
you are somewhat able to understand why she makes them. She has such a high
survival instinct that it is insane but at the same time she wants to help
Cecilia. Rachel is the one that has survived Aiden and I do not think that this
aspect should be overlooked. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 13.5pt;">I don’t think that the book
needed a POV from Cecilia as I found she didn’t really add much to the story,
mainly just talk about Rachel being weird and loving her Dad even though he is
strange at times. I think that Emily's POV was interesting, and I do wonder if
there was a different twist here or there what would have become of her, I
think we all know where Aiden was heading with her but you just don’t know for
sure.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 13.5pt;">I like how there were chapters,
even though they were short, where the reader learns how many people that he
has killed and how he picked them, lured them and eventually killed them. Some
of these "chapters" are longer than other, but they are no more than
a page.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 13.5pt;">This was a good read and overall,
I enjoyed the story, plot and how it was presented. I will admit that the book
felt slow at times and did not seem to more along, as fast as i would like. For
a debut novel I am impressed and i look forward to seeing what Michallon
releases next.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
